Overview
Ford announced the Maverick in June 2021 as a truck smaller than the Ranger, built on the same front-drive C2 platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport. It is offered only as a four-door crew cab with a short bed and began production on September 2, 2021 at Hermosillo, Mexico.
The standard powertrain is a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle hybrid with 191 combined horsepower; a 250-hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost with an eight-speed automatic is optional and was the only way to get AWD through 2024. Ford says 56% of buyers picked the hybrid in 2023, despite its $1,500 premium.
Pricing started at $19,995 and demand was so strong order banks briefly closed. The XL, XLT and Lariat trims were joined by the Tremor off-road package in 2023 (with a twin-clutch rear differential) and, for the 2025 facelift, the Lobo street truck and a standalone Tremor.
