Overview

Introduced in April 1977 as the PE-chassis Proceed 1600 in Japan, the third-generation B-Series was larger and more comfortable than its predecessor, with a woodgrain dashboard and standard or long beds. In the US it was sold as the B1800 before the 2.0-liter B2000 arrived for 1980.

A 2.2-liter S2 diesel B2200 followed from 1981 (US trucks from 1982). Long-bed versions were sold as the "Sundowner" in some markets, a camper-friendly package named after nomadic Australian herders; in the US, the 1983 B2000 line was sold as the Sundowner, Sundowner Deluxe and Sundowner Sport.

The truck was reskinned during 1982 and replaced in January 1985; by then 1.8 million B-series trucks had been built since 1961. Ford sold the same truck as the Courier until the 1982 model year.
